How You Are Being Robbed In Broad Daylight

Under the cover of day, when no one is watching, thieves are found to be the most active. Entire streets seem to be vacated while individuals are at work, school, or running errands. And this becomes a prime target for the thief who is seeking to rob you of your most valuable possessions.
Thieves are often not afraid of the work that it may take to enter your home. And often, if they do encounter an individual while breaking in, they’ll harm them in the process just to get what they want. No concern is given to what may have been invaluable items, such as family heirlooms. When the burglary is discovered, the devastating effects will take a toll on each member of your family.
Pornography has the same effect on your life.
The Thief
You seemingly have your act together. You’re successful in business, have a beautiful wife and great children, and you are a leader in your church. But secretly, you have developed a relationship with pornography. Each time you run back to porn, you leave your family unguarded against the schemes of the enemy. Eventually, it will destroy everything of value in your life and the lives of your wife and kids.

At some point in your life, pornography broke in. It may have promised you everything in the beginning, but now leaves you feeling cold and empty. Momentarily it numbs the pain that you’re feeling but quickly gives way to immense feelings of guilt, shame, and regret. As your struggle with porn escalates, it may start to feel like you’re on a carousel that will not quit to allow you the chance to step off. At times, you wonder how you got so far off track.
Many individuals who struggle with porn were either physically, emotionally, sexually, mentally, or verbally abused during childhood. Some were introduced to porn because of the careless choice of someone else. Others were given porn in an effort to groom them for abusive encounters in the future. And for some, porn snuck into their life unexpectedly through an internet search.
But regardless of how porn entered your life, it quickly became a vice to self-medicate against painful memories and the shame associated with them or present stressful situations.
Be Aware
Porn is all-consuming, like a fire that is burning out of control, nothing in its path is safe. Regardless of how hard you try, your attempts are like barricades that have been soaked in gasoline. While set up to provide safety, they instead fuel the inferno that is already raging.

Vicious Cycle
1. All Consuming
As you sit alone mindlessly clicking through the pixels on a screen, you’re being robbed of valuable time that could be spent elsewhere. You could be using this time to make memories with your family or to pursue a new hobby.
For some, they lay awake at night waiting for their family to fall asleep so they can sneak back to the computer.
As this pattern continues, your sleep patterns and attentiveness during the day are being dominated. But most importantly, it’s robbing you of the opportunity to strengthen your relationship with God. Instead of reading your Bible and conversing with the Lord, you are choosing to build a relationship with the fantasy world of porn.
2. Never Satisfied
It won’t be a one-time occurrence. An addiction to porn is never satisfied, it always hungers for more. As you fall into Satan’s snare, you will be tempted to purchase another magazine, rent one more video, or pay for an additional monthly subscription plan for content that you know you shouldn’t be viewing.

As this guilt emerges, the enemy will be making you believe that one more peek will satisfy the craving for a lifetime. But as Jesus stated in John 10:10,
“The thief comes only to steal, kill, and destroy…”
You get to choose how long you will allow yourself to be a victim of the great thief, and your life will feel the effects of the choice you make. While it may seem impossible to break free, remember that we have been given a great defender – the Holy Spirit.
Mind Of Christ
As a Christian, you have been given the mind of Christ. Because of this, you can choose to fill your mind and time with godly things. Through reading the Bible and meditating on God’s goodness and the many blessings He has bestowed upon you throughout your life, you will begin to “take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:5).
